User Logins

User Types

PAC users come in two flavours.

  • Company Users
  • Freelance Users

Company Users

Company users can...

  • Create new company users and edit existing ones
  • Create new freelance users linked to their company and edit existing ones
  • Access all programmes (that is all series, all episodes of those series and all single programmes linked to their company)

Warning

Company users should only be given to people directly employed by your company.

Freelance Users

Freelance users can...

  • Access only those programmes they are granted access to (that is the series, episodes of those series and single programmes)

Creating A User

To create a new user you must provide the following information.

  • Forename - The users first name (Cannot be blank)
  • Surname - The users surname (Cannot be blank)
  • Username - The name the user will use to login with (Should be between 6 and 30 characters). This will be automatically populated while the Forename and Surname are being entered
  • Email Address - A valid email address (Cannot be blank)
  • Language - The user interface language they wish to use when accessing PAC
  • Valid From - The date from which they can log in to PAC
  • Valid To - The date after which they can no longer log in to PAC
  • Password - The password they will use when accessing PAC. See Password Requirements for details

Once you have provided this information click 'Save'. The data will be validated and the system will attempt to create a new user. If a user with the same 'Username' already exists you will have to modify the username and try again.

Username Requirements

Usernames must be between 6 and 30 characters in length and must be unique.

If you are creating a user login for a freelancer who also works for another production company as a freelancer, you may find you need to change the username generated by the system to include a unique identifying element.

For example, "John Smith" works for two companies. For one he logs in using the username "John Smith" and for the other he uses "John Smith2". The differentiator can be anything providing the resulting username is unique at the time it is created.

Email Requirements

The email address cannot be blank and should conform to standard email validation rules. That is to say, they should like something like this:-

  • username@domain
  • user.name@domain
  • username@subdomain.tld
  • user.name@subdomain.tld

If you find an email address that is valid (i.e. you can email the recipient with your corporate email and they can reply to you) please let S4C know and we will endeavour to address the issue.

Password Requirements

Passwords for PAC must follow these rules.

  • They must be at least 6 characters in length
  • They must contain at least one of each of these character classes:-
    • Uppercase letters - A-Z
    • Lowercase letters - a-z
    • Digits - 0-9
    • Special characters - !£$%^&*()_=+;:#~,<.>/?|-\[]{}

Note

When creating a new user or changing a users password you must provide the password twice.

Deleting Users

Users cannot be deleted. If you need to disable an account, edit the user and set the 'Valid To' date to a date that has already passed. This will prevent them from logging in.

Filtering Users

The user list will, by default, be loaded showing only active users. That is users who have a 'Valid From' and 'Valid To' date range specified such that the current date sits within it. These are the only users that can log in to the system. If you would like to see the users who can't login you can select Show only in-active users, and if you'd like to see them all you can select Show all users.

Freelance User Rights

As outlined above, freelance users have no rights to any programmes when they are first created. This section outlines the process of granting and revoking users access to programmes.

Adding Rights

To grant them access to the series and programmes they need to access, you should navigate to User Logins > Freelance users > Add user rights.

Other Controls

Included in the controls section of the form are options to select and de-select all users and all programmes. These are provided as a convenience only and care should be taken when using them to ensure you do not grant too much access to too many users.

Removing Rights

To revoke user rights, you should navigate to User Logins > Freelance users > Delete user rights.

The first stage is to select the user you would like to remove rights from by clicking the select icon. The form will reload and display a list of rights the user currently has as shown below.

Confirming the removal will result in an immediate removal of the users rights to the selected programme. If they are logged in at the time of the removal, the navigation tree will not automatically update but the internal PAC security checks will prevent them from accessing the forms related to the programme.
