Music Cue Sheets
Overview
There are two forms available for music cue sheets.
- 408 Music Cue Sheet - This form is available to any programme where it is a required deliverable
- Music Cue Sheet Templates - This form is available only to series and is not considered a deliverable item
408 Music Cue Sheet
The music cue sheet is available to any single programme or series episode where it is a required deliverable. The form used to provide the cue sheets is shown below.
Form Components
The selector consists of a drop down selector that allows instant navigation to any cues within the cue sheet, while the buttons allow you to go to the first (<<), previous (<), next (>) and last (>>) cues. When you change the selected song, the form will be populated with the data from the selected cue.
The cue details allow you to provide details about the work used in the cue along with how it's used (Background, Featured or Signature).
Each contributor to the work should be added to this list. Each entry must have their forename and surname and the role they had in the work. The only instance where only the company name can be provided is when the contributor is a publisher. New entries can be added by clicking the Add button (the new entry will be added to the bottom of the list). Unwanted entries can be removed by clicking their respective Remove button.
Like the contributors section, you can add and remove timecode entries using the Add and Remove buttons. You must provide at least one entry in this section and the time specified by Timecode Out must be after Timecode In.

Music Cue Sheet Templates
Only available to series, Music Cue Sheet Templates allow you to provide the details for works used regularly in the series. The signature tune for example is likely to be used in the same way in every episode. Providing all the information about the song and (optionally) some timecodes for it's use allows you to simply import the work into an actual music cue sheet attached to an episode with the minimum of effort.
In this example, you will notice that there are no timecodes provided. This ability to save works without timecodes is only available for templates, and in this example it would be more likely that the template would include some initial timecodes (assuming the programme signature tune is played at the same places - you could provide some initial times that can be fine tuned when the template is imported into an actual cue sheet).
Tip
Notice the usage for this work is set to Signature. If you are also using the work for say Background it is not necessary to create two templates. You can edit the work before you save it allowing you to adjust it as required.
Common Actions
The following actions are available and apply to both Music Cue Sheet Templates and 408 Music Cue Sheets.
- Add New - Add a new work to the cue sheet
- Edit - Edit the currently selected work
- Delete - Remove the currently selected work from the cue sheet
- Accept Change - Accept the current change (applies to Add New and Edit as deletes are saved when they are confirmed)
- Cancel Change - Cancel the current change (see above)
- Save All Changes - Commit all changes made so far (the changes that will be committed will be outlined in the Unsaved Changes section)
- Undo All Changes - Undo all changes made so far (this forces a reload of the form, overwriting the data it contains)
Lifecycle Of A Change
The exact lifecycle of a change will depend on what type of change it is.
- Add New - Available at any time when it is enabled
- The form is cleared and editing is enabled
- The actions Accept Change and Cancel Change are enabled, all others are disabled
- The user provides the required information
- If they click Cancel Change, the form is restored to it's previous state any data provided will be lost
- If they click Accept Change, the data will be saved internally, an outline of the addition will be added to the Unsaved Changes section and the Save All Changes and Undo All Changes actions will be enabled
- Editing will be disabled and the other controls will be set to their required state
- Edit - Available when an existing work is selected in the selector at the top of the page
- The data about the selected work will already be loaded into the form, so editing is enabled
- The actions Accept Change and Cancel Change are enabled, all others are disabled
- The user makes the required changes to the provided information
- If they click Cancel Change, the form is restored to it's previous state and changes made will be lost
- If they click Accept Change, the data will be saved internally, an outline of the edit will be added to the Unsaved Changes section and the Save All Changes and Undo All Changes actions will be enabled
- Editing will be disabled and the other controls will be set to their required state
- Delete - Available when an existing work is selected in the selector at the top of the page
- The user will be asked to confirm the deletion
- If they cancel the deletion, nothing happens as no changes were made to the form data, the editing state or control state
- If they confirm the deletion, the currently selected work will be deleted, an outline of the deletion will be added to the Unsaved Changes section and the Save All Changes and Undo All Changes actions will be enabled
- The other controls will be set to their required state
Note
Due to how they are implemented the two buttons for downloading the cue sheet as a rich text file (RTF) or a comma separated value file (CSV) cannot be disabled. If you inadvertantly click one and you leave the form, you can recover any outstanding changes by simply returning to the form by selecting it again in the navigation tree.
Importing A Template
To import a template, you should follow the steps below.
- Select the template work wish to import using the drop down box in the Import From Template section of the form
- Click Import Work
This is how it looks during the process.
When you've clicked Import Work the form will check to see if a work with the same title is already present in the sheet. If it is, you will be asked whether you want to proceed.
Once imported, it is as if you have clicked Add New and entered all the information the template contains manually. You can make any further changes you need and then click Accept Change to save or Cancel Change to abort.
The Cue Sheet Clipboard
To allow the mass movement of music cues (from says the templates for season 1 of a series, to the templates for season 2 of the series), a clipboard has been provided.
Operation of the clipboard is straightforward. The controls will be enabled when you can use them and they do exactly what they say.
- Save To Clipboard - Will save the current cue sheet in it's entirety to the clipboard. You must have at least one item in the sheet for this option to be available. This option is available when viewing outstanding and archived forms
- Load From Clipboard - Will load the clipboard content into the current cue sheet, overwriting all existing content. This option will be available when there is data in the clipboard and you are viewing outstanding forms only
- Clear Clipboard - Will clear the data from the clipboard. This option will be available when viewing outstanding and archived forms
Along with the operation buttons, the clipboard controls include a brief description of the content of the clipboard. This is copied from the title of the form when the Save To Clipboard button is clicked.
Completing A Cue Sheet
Note
This option is only available on 408 Music Cue Sheets.
When details of all the works used in a programme have been provided and all outstanding changes have been saved, the form can be completed by clicking the Complete button in the Actions section. You will be asked to confirm that you want to complete the form.
Data Storage and Recovery
The music cue sheet editor is the same for both series templates and programme cuesheets. When you accept a change, instead of sending all the data back to the server, it is saved locally in your web browser along with some basic information that identifies which object (which series, series episode or single programme) it relates to and a brief outline of the changes you've made. This data persists until it is cleared.
What this means for you, the user, is that if your session is ended before you've been able to commit the changes, the next time you visit a music cue sheet form it will check the local storage and if it contains any unsaved data you will be prompted to take action. The action available to you will depend on what data is stored and what form you have just requested.
If you have attempted to load the cue sheet linked to a different object, you will be prompted with the question "Unsaved data for another cuesheet item is being held locally. Would you like to load the other item to review/save the data, if you don't, the data will be cleared?".
At this point, you can elect to click Cancel, on doing so the unsaved data will be cleared from the browsers storage area and the data related to the item you have just selected will be loaded for editing. If you click OK, you will be redirected to the cue sheet form to which the data belongs.
If you have attempted to load the cue sheet you were editing, you will be prompted with the question "Unsaved data for this item is being held locally. The data has a timestamp of
As the prompt states, you can elect to click Cancel, the data will be cleared and the data you have just received from the server will be loaded for editing. If you click OK, the data stored in your browser will be loaded instead allowing you to review the changes and commit them if you wish.
Info
In-line with the policy of trying to prevent users from losing their work, the form does include checks that attempt to point out the potential data lose that could result if you navigate away from the form. These checks and reminders still occur even though the chances of losing the unsaved changes are greatly reduced.
Warning
You should exercise some caution when considering whether you would like to load the data stored in the browser. Depending on it's age, it's possible someone else could have made changes which you could overwrite by reverting to the stored data. This is why the timestamp of the data is provided. If you've just clicked Save All Changes and your login session expired, then there is probably very low risk to logging back in, going straight to the cue sheet you were editing and loading the data. But if it's been quite a while and there is a chance someone else has edited the data you are probably best advised to select Cancel and forget the changes held locally.
Downloading Cue Sheets
Cue sheets can be exported as rich text files (RTF) and comma separated files (CSV). The options to perform these exports will be at the bottom of the form as shown below.
Simply click on the required format and you will be prompted to provide a filename for the download. Select where you would like the save the file, give it a name and click Save and the download will commence.
